Discount Code or Link? Getting Your Audience to Buy
When to use a discount code or a referral link in affiliate marketing, where to place each in videos, posts and messages, and how to get people to buy.

The short answer: use both. The link is for people ready to tap now, and the discount code is for people who hear or watch your recommendation and subscribe later. In the Engage partner program the subscription counts for you either way, so do not choose; put each where it works.
Why a link alone is not enough
Many people convinced by your recommendation do not buy on the spot. They watch a video on the go and open the site that evening on another device, or hear you on a podcast or at an event and never see a link. The link gets lost; the code stays: a short word with your name that they remember and type at checkout.
And why a code alone is not enough
A code asks the customer to find the site, remember and type. A link is one step. For anyone ready now, give them the shortest path.
Where to put each
| Place | Best | Why |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok and Instagram video | Code spoken and on screen, link in bio | Links cannot be tapped inside the video |
| Instagram Stories | Link sticker | One tap for people who follow you |
| LinkedIn post | Link in the first comment, code in the text | A link in the text reduces reach |
| WhatsApp or Telegram message | Link and code together | Messages get saved and revisited |
| Workshop, talk or podcast | Code | Nobody types a long link from memory |
Make the code easy to remember
A code with your name is easier than random letters and reminds people who recommended it. Say it clearly at the end of the video, show it on screen, and repeat it in the caption.
Give a reason to subscribe now, honestly
The discount is a real reason to subscribe through you. But do not invent urgency like “last day” if it is not. An audience that catches you exaggerating does not come back. Stronger than any discount is showing what you made with the product yourself, then saying “here is my link, here is my code”.
Track what works
The partner dashboard shows clicks and customers from your link. If messages bring more customers than videos, send more messages. If teachers subscribe more than shop owners, focus on them.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use the link or the discount code?
Both. The link is for people who tap now, the code for people who hear or watch and subscribe later. The subscription counts for you either way.
Where do I find my link and code?
In the partner dashboard after you sign up. The code sits next to your link, along with the clicks and customers who came from you.
Does my link work for every Engage product?
Yes. One program covers Decks, Posts, Chats and Calls, so recommend whichever suits your audience.
